A day's guided ski touring from the top of the Dachstein Glacier to Hallstatt is particularly recommended at 55 euros per person.
Starting at 9.30 and arriving back from this 25km trek at about 4.30 with lunch in a mountain hut away from the crowds. 
Ramsau is the perfect place to learn to ski and there are several local ski schools offering both group and private lessons for full and half days with patient English speaking instructors. Lessons can be booked for children from 4 years old and can include lunchtime supervision. All lessons and equipment hire can be pre-booked through the Pension Hoffelner who will even organise transport for guests to the hire shop on arrival.
